Wagner Park
Just north of Historic Battery Park, off Battery Place
New York, New York Size: 3 ½ acres Open Daily: dawn to dusk Website Wagner Park is a splendid piece of waterfront on the Hudson River opposite the Statue of Liberty at the southern end of Battery Park City. Designed by Laurie Olin, Landscape Architect of Philadelphia, Rudolfo Machado, Architect of Boston and Lynden Miller,Garden Designer, it opened in 1996. Due to her work in many successful parks and gardens in New York City, Mrs. Miller’s role in the design was crucial in maximizing future public enjoyment of the site and in establishing the public’s confidence in this project, which replaced a earlier highly controversial design. Within the park’s overall design, she created two separate contained gardens, each with a colorful display of plantings for all seasons, one with pastel colors of bloom and foliage and the other with bright strong colors. She also contributed her knowledge of plants to the overall plant palette throughout the park. |
